BRENTWOOD — CSEA members employed at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center work long, hard hours providing direct care and other essential services to persons with mental illness.

Our members can be found throughout the center doing what they do best, providing exceptional care.
“Our members serve vital roles in all of the departments,” said Pilgrim Psychiatric Center Local President Arnold “Rashad” Jones. “Without them, this center would not run.”

Not only are our members employed in direct care roles working attentively on the wards at the inpatient center, they are also working with patients at the center’s outpatient facilities.

Then there are maintenance workers, who stay busy keeping the almost 100-year-old facility in working condition.

Not to be forgotten, food services workers feed patients three nutritious meals per day. Housekeeping workers ensure the center is clean and safe.

“We also have a Personnel department that is very important,” said Jones.

But the real focus is on caring for the patients.

“We take care of people who are often treated like outcasts,” said Jones. “We offer people services that either helps them transition back into society or we provide a safe haven for our clients who have a lengthier stay.”

While our members don’t always receive the positive credit they deserve, Pilgrim Psychiatric Center workers are proud of the work they do.

“It feels wonderful to be able to help our clients,” said Pilgrim Psychiatric Center Residential Program Assistant Javonna Blaize. “A lot of our clients don’t have hope when they arrive. The care that we provide helps them feel more confident that they can have a better quality of life. Being able to effect that kind of change is why I come to work.”
