Long Island Region Political Action Committee (PAC) gathered at the CSEA Long Island region office for a video conference about the proposed New York state budget.
Other PACs around the state also participated in the meeting, held by CSEA Director of Legislative and Political Action Fran Turner.
During the meeting, members discussed the New York state governor’s proposed budget and how certain proposals will affect our members.
One positive point is safety legislation that will impose higher ticket prices for drivers that do not obey speed limits or traffic signals, which should increase the safety level for CSEA’s highway and Department of Transportation workers.
Also of concern is the mandatory overtime that our direct care workers in the Office of People With Developmental Disabilities have to endure. CSEA is working with the state to fast track new hires in order to alleviate some of the burden on our members.
CSEA also plans on fighting the governor’s proposed increase on Medicaid Part B, which is of major significance to our retirees.
After the presentation of the budget proposals, attendees asked questions and offered feedback about the issues discussed at the meeting.
There will be more discussions aboutthe governor’s budget at upcoming PAC meetings.
