GOSHEN — CSEA is mourning the death of Orange County Unit member Tom Walter, 28, who died Feb. 5 following a single-car collision that occurred when the county-owned car Walter was driving struck a tree in the Town of Goshen.
Walter, a Warwick resident, was on the job at the time of his death, performing his duties as a public health technician for the county Department of Health. He had worked for the county since 2017.
Outside of work, Walter was a volunteer firefighter with the Raymond Hose Co. No. 2 in Warwick, as well as an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.
Walter is survived by his parents, Joe and Debbie Walter; sister, Laura Walter; brother, Peter Walter; niece and nephew, Hannah and Theodore; as well as extended family.
Visitation and a firematic service took place Feb. 9, followed by a funeral mass on Feb. 10.
CSEA and PESH are investigating the incident.
