The CSEA Long Island Region executive board members recently paid a visit to State Sen. James Gaughran’s office to discuss our union’s concerns about a state budget proposal that could have devastating effects on public services.

The proposal would shift the cost of Medicaid from the state to counties, an action that would not only result in major cost increases for local governments but would limit local governments’ ability to raise revenues.

The additional expense could result in counties facing a choice between raising taxes and cutting public services. Senator Gaughran was very receptive to what our region officers had to say and promised to vote against the proposal.
