NY — Federal support to schools, states, cities and towns is essential for maintaining the public services that communities depend on, including public safety, healthcare and sanitation. Without this assistance there will be massive cuts in critical services and layoffs of millions of workers (EPI estimates 5.3 million), many of whom are on the frontlines and essential to fighting the pandemic. Functioning public services such as healthcare and transportation will make it possible to reopen our economy safely, help businesses and get people back to work.

The next few weeks may be our only and last chance for this aid this year. Americans cannot risk losing essential public services that keep them healthy and safe for months on end in the midst of a pandemic.
