MANHATTAN — To observe the anniversary of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the CSEA Metropolitan Region Education Committee asked our members to wear a yellow article of clothing to raise awareness of this important moment in labor union history. President John F. Kennedy signed the legislation June 10, 1963 that aimed to abolish wage disparity based on gender. Despite this landmark law, the American Association of University Women noted that as of 2015, women earned 80 cents for every dollar men earn. Union women have more pay equity because of our contracts.
