CSEA members in the Western and Southern Regions recently took the Polar Plunge into chilly waters to benefit the Special Olympics New York.
CSEA Western Region members were among the more than 1,800 attendees at the recent 20th Annual Rochester Polar Plunge at Ontario Beach Park.
Shortly before the plunge, former CSEA Western Region President Bob Pyjas, along with CSEA Rochester Polar Plunge Committee Chair and Western Region 1st Vice President Renee Jackson, presented a check to Special Olympics New York President Stacey Hengsterman in the amount of $8,647. The CSEA Western Region was a featured sponsor at the plunge.
Pyjas also presented the Florence Flo Tripi Rochester Polar Plunge Top Donor Award at the pre-plunge ceremony.
Another highlight at the event was a special proclamation award given to CSEA member Melissa Gue, who has volunteered with the Special Olympics New York for 20 years. Gue is a Secretary 1 employed by Monroe Community College in the office of Student Life and Leadership and an active Monroe County Local member.
In the Southern Region, Team CSEA Region 3 participated in the recent Fishkill Polar Plunge at Sharpe Reservation, both through jumping into the lake and by cheering our team on as a ‘polar chicken.’
