1. CSEA Provides Testimony
This week, CSEA presented testimony at the Workforce Development and Labor Budget Hearing. In our testimony, we highlighted several of CSEA’s top priorities for this year’s budget, including highway worker safety, fair benefits for DMNA firefighters, extending the civil service exam fee waiver, and recruitment and retention in the public sector workforce. Check out our written testimony and watch our panel presentation.
2. Federal Budget Resolution
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget resolution this week that paves the way for deep cuts to federal spending. In a narrow 217-215 vote along party lines, Republicans voted in favor of $2 trillion in spending reductions over the next decade. This includes at least $880 billion in cuts to healthcare spending, which includes Medicaid; at least $330 billion in cuts to education spending, at least $10 billion in cuts to transportation funding, and more.
Next, House Republicans will work to draft spending bills that reflect these cuts. These cuts would have a significant impact on New York, which receives over $90 billion in federal funding to support hospitals, schools, infrastructure, and more. Without this funding, critical public services and CSEA members’ jobs are at risk.

3. Take Action: Protect Workers!
Highway workers are being struck and killed. DMV employees are facing violence and threats just for doing their jobs. These are not just statistics—they are our coworkers, our friends, our union family.
We refuse to accept dangerous working conditions as “part of the job.” Lawmakers must act now to protect those who serve the public every day.
The State Legislature wrapped up budget hearings this week and is now focused on finalizing their one-house budgets. We’re expecting that their budgets will be released in the next few weeks, so we need to act fast!
Stand up. Speak out. Demand action. Their safety depends on it! Click on the links below to send emails to your legislators to demand that they include protections for these workers in the final budget!
4. Lieutenant Governor
New York Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado has announced he will not seek re-election on Governor Kathy Hochul’s ticket in 2026. This decision follows public disagreements with Hochul, including calls for New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ resignation and urging President Joe Biden to forgo re-election. Soon after, Delgado filed a new campaign committee, indicating that he may mount a challenge to Hochul next year.
5. Next Week
The State Legislature will meet on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
