NIAGARA FALLS — Columbia County Local President Samantha Oliver recently received the Danny Donohue Leadership Award for Local Government.
CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan presented the award to Oliver at our union’s 115th Annual Delegates Meeting. The Danny Donohue Leadership Award honors CSEA activists who embody both the spirit of our union’s mission in a manner emblematic of Donohue’s legacy — a commitment to justice, fairness, and an unwavering belief in the power of working people.
“We have a local president who has revitalized her local by fostering collaboration, trust, and engagement among her officers and members,” said Sullivan. “Her efforts to bring regular training, communication, and unity have strengthened her local from the ground up, ensuring members are informed, connected, and empowered.”
Oliver carries forward the passion of Donohue by leading with integrity, standing up for co-workers and strengthening our union every day.

“Through her tireless advocacy and involvement at both the regional and statewide levels, she has elevated the voice of Columbia County members, rebuilding a strong and visible presence within our union family,” said Sullivan.
Oliver’s advocacy extends beyond Columbia County to both CSEA’s region and statewide levels, as she serves on the Capital Region’s Membership Committee and on the Statewide PEOPLE Committee.
“This award means a great deal to me because it represents the heart of why I got involved — to help others and make a positive impact,” said Oliver. “Being recognized in Danny Donohue’s name and to be seen as someone who reflects even a few of his traits is a true honor and a reminder to keep leading with compassion and purpose.”
“I’m incredibly proud to be part of a union that embodies his spirit of leadership, unity, and unwavering dedication to working people,” said Oliver. “I hope to continue to honor his name by lifting others, standing together, and making a difference for the people I serve.”
