CSEA mourns the loss of longtime staff member Sharon Lovelady-Hall

In 2022, Sharon Lovelady-Hall, left, presents a Capital District Area Labor Federation award to CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan.

CSEA is mourning the loss of Executive Assistant to the President Sharon Lovelady-Hall, who recently passed away from a long illness.

“Sharon Lovelady-Hall was a dear friend and a powerful activist and advocate in the labor movement,” said CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan. “So many of us counted her as a beloved family member, and there are no words to express this loss.”

Sharon, a former CSEA member and Local Secretary with the New York State Higher Education Services Corp. joined CSEA staff in 1997, becoming our union’s Director of Education and Leadership Development in 2004. She was instrumental to building our union’s Education and Training Department and founder of CSEA’s LEAD Program.

Sharon was also deeply committed to advancing working women, serving as adviser of our union’s Standing Women’s Committee for many years.

Since 2021, Sharon had served as our union’s Executive Assistant to the President, overseeing many of our union’s initiatives.

Sharon was also a strong advocate and activist within the greater labor movement. She was involved with the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) for many years. She became a leader in CBTU, most recently serving as Director of CBTU Region 1, overseeing CBTU chapters across New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Ontario, Canada.

“She was a powerful force within the labor movement and a strong advocate for education and equality,” said Sullivan. “My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, particularly her husband Otis, her loved ones and to all of you who, like me, counted Sharon Lovelady-Hall as a beloved family member. We will forever miss and remember you, Sharon.”
