Today, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a “general agreement” on the final state budget. While details are still being negotiated, the governor highlighted several items that are posiitve for CSEA members, including:
- Increased school aid funding
- Additional capital and operating support for safety-net and distressed hospitals
- Increased capital and operating funding for municipalities outside New York City
- Additional investment in child care and pre-kindergarten services
The legislature also passed budget extenders #9 and #10, which keep state government operating through May 11 and ensure payroll is met for Executive Branch members on the administration payroll. The next deadline of note is Tuesday, May 12, when another extender must be in place to cover the institution payroll.
Now that a general agreement has been reached, final budget bills are expected to be released within the next week. CSEA will continue working to ensure the final budget includes our top priorities, including Tier 5 and Tier 6 reform, improvements to highway safety and more.
