This Week in Albany – October 9, 2026

1. Wall Street Profits

According to a report issued by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Wall Street is on pace for a far stronger year than anticipated, with profits reaching $45.9 billion in the first half of 2026, up 51.3% from the same period last year. The securities industry is a major source of tax revenue for New York State, generating an estimated $26.3 billion in State Fiscal Year 2025-26, or 20.8% of all state tax collections. With profits running well ahead of expectations, the state could see a significant revenue boost as it prepares its next budget.

2. CSEA Endorsement Highlight: Rebecca Kassay

CSEA has endorsed Rebecca Kassay for reelection in State Assembly District 4, which includes parts of Suffolk County. Rebecca is a strong supporter of CSEA and has fought to secure major victories CSEA members, including by co-sponsoring A.9162-A, a bill to provide 9-1-1 and emergency dispatchers with the ability to retire after 25-years of service.

Her opponent, William Sussman, is an anti-union activist who spoke at a congressional hearing on behalf of the National Right to Work Committee, the group that has been trying to take away hard-earned union rights for decades.
