Oyster Bay’s people leading the way for PEOPLE OYSTER BAY — It takes people to make PEOPLE — that is the clear message that CSEA Town of Oyster Bay Local activists are spreading to local members. Town of Oyster Bay Local activists, led by Local President Jarvis T. Brown, are leading the way in signing up members for the PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality) Program. The PEOPLE program protects and improves our jobs, benefits and pensions in Washington, Albany and in your community. Your support and participation in PEOPLE strengthens CSEA’s clout in the workplace, in the legislature, in your community and in the labor movement. Local activists recently recruited more than 100 new PEOPLE members over a month, and they’re not done yet. Brown and other local officers have a ready answer. “A lot of people didn’t know what it was about,” said Brown. “We had to make them understand that unions are under attack. The activists each recruited 48 new PEOPLE members. “It’s an ongoing thing for us,” Healey said. “We go out and we earn their trust. If they have a question, we answer it. If we don’t have the answer, we go get it and contact them later. We don’t just talk at them; we talk to them.” The PEOPLE activists are also doing more than talking when connecting with members. “Sometimes, you just have to listen,” Davino said. “We let them say what’s on their minds.
