"We're going to do our best to get a contract that represents the fairness and respect our members deserve," CSEA President Danny Donohue said. "We will consider all aspects of our members' needs when we go to the table, and many have already let us know what those needs are." Since May, more than 4,000 CSEA state members have completed an online survey, allowing the negotiating team to get a better idea of what is important to union members in the upcoming negotiations. Several emails have been sent during the summer to state members who have not taken the survey, reminding them that it is available, and directions to find the survey online have been included in previous Work Force editions. "It's a good start, but we need to hear from as many members as possible to make sure their voices are heard at the table," Donohue said. Contract team members also have been conducting "listening tours" across the state to gather members' concerns. The previous five-year contract is in effect until April 1, 2016. It took effect April 2, 2011. Terry Gilbert, former Ulster County local president KINGSTON — CSEA is mourning former Ulster County Local President Milton “Terry” Gilbert, 61, who died July 30. Gilbert was a longtime CSEA activist who came up through the union ranks while working as a bus driver at the Golden Hill Health Care Center. His fondness for the residents there helped fuel the fight to retain Golden Hill as a county facility, during which time Gilbert gave many powerful speeches to legislators defending the county’s moral obligation to its elderly. “Terry had such a heart for the residents and workers at Golden Hill,” said Southern Region President Billy Riccaldo. “He was front and center at legislature meetings and, through his speeches, served as the conscience through a very important time for that county.” Gilbert is survived by his wife, two children and two grandchildren. — Jessica Ladlee Gilbert 2 The Work Force September 2015
