Thinking about retiring? Here’s how to prepare!
It’s never too early to start preparing for retirement. The New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) recommends requesting a retirement estimate about 18 months before your anticipated retirement date. A request for an estimate does not commit you to retire on a certain date, but will assist your retirement planning. For additional details on Form RS 6030, including how to request one and what to do with it when you do receive it, consult your CSEA Retirement Guide.
How It Works
The Retirement System will provide you with estimated amounts payable under the various options. This is done through a Request for Estimate (RS 6030) form, which is available from your employer, from the NYSLRS’s headquarters in Albany, or from the retirement system’s traveling Information Representatives. A request for an estimate does not commit you to retire on a certain date, but will assist your retirement planning.
You will find information to help you schedule a recommended consultation with a NYSLRS information representative, including a listing of meeting hours and locations around the state where you can ask specific questions about your benefits and get information on your individual circumstances.
