Remembering Jake Arcara – Work Zone Awareness

Jake Arcara wasn’t just a worker in a roadside vest. He was a son, a fiancé, a co-worker, and a friend.

At just 28 years old, Jake was doing his job as a motor equipment operator for the Town of Yorktown when his life was cut short. On September 14, 2022, Jake was struck by a vehicle while working in a highway work zone.

He should have gone home that day.
He didn’t.

Jake was part of a tight-knit crew. The kind of guy you sat next to at lunch, joked with on the job, and counted on every day. He was engaged to be married, with a future ahead of him that never got the chance to unfold.

His loss still weighs heavily on his union family.

Since Jake’s passing, his co-workers and the broader community have come together to push for stronger protections in work zones, because no one else should have to pay that price.

Slow down. Stay alert. Respect the work zone.
The people you see working on our roads aren’t just workers. They’re someone’s whole world.

Let’s make sure they all make it home.
