MANHATTAN — Wayne Lawrence has modified his pitch for recruiting our union brothers and sisters into the PEOPLE program.
Late last year, Lawrence based his PEOPLE pitches based on his co-workers’ length of time in our union. Now, he is stressing the importance of health care.
As a PEOPLE recruiter and 2nd vice president of our Manhattan Psychiatric Center Local in the Metropolitan Region, Lawrence has been working hard in recent months to boost participation.
He was recently named as the PEOPLE Recruiter of the Month for February, recruiting 16 new PEOPLE members.
“What I have been focusing on now is more serious than my last platform. It is the mere fact of the political agenda with regard to health care,” Lawrence said. “We’re talking about patient health care, our parents’ health care and more. It’s hitting home now.”
As he ramps up the recruitment at his work site, he also stresses how disinvestment in health care may ultimately affect their jobs and the quality care our members provide to New York’s most vulnerable individuals.
“This (PEOPLE) is how we fight,” said Lawrence. “It’s something my co-workers understand, and it has helped us in terms of unifying our members and building bridges within our departments.”
Lawrence applauded our members at Manhattan Psychiatric Center for their renewed commitment to PEOPLE. “I’d like to thank them personally for contributing to something that’s worthwhile for them and their families livelihood.”
