Executive Vice President Jarvis T. Brown prioritizes communication, education

Brown

ALBANY — Newly elected CSEA Executive Vice President Jarvis T. Brown has been a CSEA member for 20 years, entering our union as a Town of Oyster Bay sanitation worker.

Since then, he has emerged as one of CSEA’s most respected leaders.

With the credos, “Communicate to Educate” and “Knowledge is the Key to Success,” Brown has dedicated his leadership career to building a stronger union and improving the lives of CSEA members.

Brown began his career in the CSEA Town of Oyster Bay Local, first serving as assistant to the president before becoming the local’s 2nd vice president and eventually local president, a position he held for 11 years.

Strong leadership and negotiation skills enabled Brown to persuade the Town of Oyster Bay to lift its tax cap, saving CSEA members’ jobs. Brown also grew his local by organizing hundreds of workers whose titles were previously excluded from union positions.

Brown was elected CSEA Long Island Region 1st vice president in 2020. During his tenure, he helped establish the CSEA Long Island Region School Districts Committee, which was created to address specific issues impacting school district workers. He also became a staple at the committee’s meetings, speaking on a variety of subjects that helped members become more educated and vocal activists.

Brown was elected CSEA Long Island Region President in 2024. Almost immediately, CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan appointed him administrator of CSEA Nassau County Local, which at the time was one of CSEA’s largest locals, with more than 7,000 members. Brown went head-to-head with county leadership to preserve affordable medical benefits for thousands of members.

A proven union organizer, Brown has grown our union by successfully organizing more than 1,000 new CSEA members across New York state. Brown’s most exceptional organizing achievement is bringing 120 SCO Family of Services workers into our union, defeating one of the country’s largest union-busting law firms.

Brown continues his highly accomplished career as CSEA executive vice president, where he will make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of CSEA members.
