Face-to-face engagement fuels local judiciary blitz

Members of CSEA’s New York City State Employees Local across Metropolitan Region 2 recently participated in a series of union engagement events that reinforced solidarity, strengthened communication and introduced new leadership during a Judiciary Unit membership blitz held at state court locations.

The coordinated effort gave members working in the courts the opportunity to meet newly elected New York City State Employees Local President Lanielle Roach, engage directly with Metropolitan Region 2 President Lester Crockett and connect with staff, vendors and union representatives.

The events focused on strengthening member relationships, sharing critical workplace updates and ensuring members understood the wide range of benefits and services available through CSEA.

From appellate courts to civil and Supreme Court locations, the energy was consistent; members welcomed leadership’s presence in their workplaces and appreciated the opportunity to have meaningful, face-to-face conversations.

Crockett emphasized the importance of these direct engagement opportunities.

“These types of events are essential to building a strong union,” said Crockett. “When leadership shows up in the workplace, members know their voices matter. These engagement days allow us to listen, respond to concerns, share resources and strengthen the connections that make our union powerful. A connected membership is an empowered membership.”

Throughout the blitz, members stopped by information tables to learn about union benefits, ask questions about workplace issues and speak directly with their leadership team.

Vendors also provided valuable information on services available to members, while region staff offered guidance on benefits, workplace protections and union programs.

For many members, the events created a renewed sense of connection and engagement.

“The CSEA union information day plays a vital role in keeping members informed, connected and actively involved in shaping a stronger workplace community,” said Wanda Charles, an appellate court clerk with the Committee on Character & Fitness in the Appellate Division First Department.

Charles and others said the presence of leadership in the workplace helped strengthen communication and made members feel heard and supported.

The two-week membership blitz also served as an opportunity to welcome new members and build momentum for future organizing and engagement efforts.

“From March 16–31, 2026, our Local 010 Judiciary Unit Membership Blitz really showed what our union is all about—leaders showing up, members getting involved and stronger connections all around,” said Roach, emphasizing that member engagement will remain a top priority moving forward.

The blitz demonstrated that when leadership is visible and members are engaged, the result is a stronger, more unified union.

As the local continues building momentum, these events mark the beginning of an ongoing commitment to communication, collaboration and collective strength across the region.

“We met people where they were, welcomed new members, listened to concerns and opened up better communication,” said Roach. “We didn’t just grow our numbers—we grew closer as a group. This wasn’t just an event; it was a reminder to keep showing up for each other and building a stronger, more connected union for everyone.”
