Mary E. Sullivan:  Educate. Motivate. Activate.

Last fall, at our Annual Delegates Meeting, we focused on leadership development. It was a call to action that strengthened our ability to confront the challenges ahead while continuing to advance our union’s mission. That work matters now more than ever.

As we move into 2026, we are building on that momentum with purpose and urgency. This moment demands a union that is informed, engaged, and ready to act. That starts with empowering our union members through education and training. From supporting new officers to strengthening the skills of experienced leaders, building knowledge across our union ensures that members understand the issues we face, the rights we have, and the power we hold together. Informed members are better equipped to protect themselves, support their co-workers, and strengthen the public services New Yorkers rely on.

CSEA members are facing real pressures. Affordability challenges, chronic understaffing, and uncertainty caused by recent federal funding reductions are affecting our worksites and our communities. Yet even in the face of these challenges, our shared commitment to fairness and public service continues to drive this union forward. Improving Tier 6 remains one of our highest priorities because restoring fairness is essential to recruitment, retention, and thelong-term strength of public service. Our ongoing fight for safe workplaces and adequate staffing ensures members can deliver quality services safely and with dignity.

Education and motivation must lead to action. We are prepared to meet emerging challenges head-on and to stand strong. The work we have done to build knowledgeable, engaged leaders across our union means we are ready not just to respond, but to lead. When we act together with unity and purpose, we have shown time and again that we can make real change.

That is what it means to educate, motivate, and activate.

That is what it means to be one voice for many.
