Mary E. Sullivan: Your vote matters

Fall is here. Students are back in schools and on campuses, summer vacations are behind us and our routines have shifted with the season. For CSEA, fall also means election season is in full swing.

On November 3, we have important choices to make, from governor to Congress, the state Legislature and local races across New York.

CSEA members understand the power of our vote. Year after year, members vote at higher rates than the general public. That gives us a powerful collective voice, and this year, there is a lot at stake.

We have already seen how decisions in Washington can affect CSEA members. Federal budget cuts threaten vital programs and put enormous financial pressure on state and local governments. This year’s congressional races could help determine control of the U.S. House and the direction Washington takes on issues affecting working people and public services.

Here in New York, the people we elect will make decisions about our jobs, pensions, health care, workplace safety and the services we provide.

When CSEA members vote, elected leaders pay attention.

Your voice builds our power.
