Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation dedicating the State Route 2 bridge over State Route 22 in Rensselaer County in memory of Robert Bornt, a longtime NYSDOT highway maintenance supervisor and CSEA leader who was killed in a work zone crash in 2025.
This legislation follows the Governor’s expansion of the work zone camera program beyond highways and to any roadway in New York State.
Today, CSEA Capital Region 4 President Shana Davis spoke at the Latham NYS DOT yard standing alongside Rensselaer County Local President Anthony Spychalsky.
“We’re proud to see Robert’s life and service honored, but we know more must be done to prevent these tragedies,” said Davis. “Work zone safety remains a top priority for CSEA, and we’ll continue fighting for stronger protections for the workers who build and maintain our roads.”
A formal dedication ceremony officially renaming the bridge will take place in the near future.
