As school budget votes and board of education elections approach on May 19, CSEA is urging members to stay informed, involved and ready to act.
These decisions directly impact our classrooms, our workloads and the services we provide students, families and our communities.
School budgets are more than numbers on a page—they determine staffing levels, program availability, classroom resources and the overall quality of education in our districts. They also shape our working conditions and the ability of school employees to do their jobs effectively.
Members are encouraged to attend budget hearings and school board meetings, ask questions and make their voices heard. Engagement at the local level is one of the most powerful tools we have. When school employees show up and speak out, it strengthens our collective voice and helps ensure decision-makers understand the real impact of their choices.
At the same time, many districts are facing increased pressure from federal actions, including funding cuts and shifting policies that can strain already tight budgets. These challenges can lead to reduces programs, increased workloads and fewer resources for students and staff alike.
That’s why now, more than ever, solidarity matters. By staying engaged, supporting one another and participating in the democratic process, we can push back against harmful cuts, advocate for fair and responsible budgets and continue fighting for the strong, well-funded public schools our communities deserve.
