ULSTER COUNTY BLITZ REACHES MEMBERS, ALLOWS FOR FEEDBACK
Our union is resuming member engagement blitzes, with the goal of hearing feedback directly from CSEA members. The first in a series of blitzes statewide took place in Ulster County in early June, where we connected with over 250 members at worksite meetings and had another 103 conversations during home visits.
The weeklong blitz was a fantastic opportunity to interact with members from the Ulster County Local, Taconic State Parks Local, Highland Residential Center Local, and SUNY New Paltz Local. Powering this week of activism were our member activist volunteers, who teamed up with staff for worksite meetings and traveled the county to visit members at their homes.

CSEA fights for caseworkers, honors Maria Coto’s memory
CSEA recently joined state legislators to advocate for proposed legislation that would better protect caseworkers as they carry out their jobs in our communities. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Dana Levenberg, would offer improvements including panic buttons workers would carry while working in the community. The family and co-workers of Maria Coto, the CSEA Westchester County Unit member and caseworker killed on the job last year, strongly support these measures. While the legislation didn’t make it across the finish line this legislative session, it remains a priority for lawmakers and our union. Watch TV coverage of a news conference regarding the legislation here.
Resources available through CSEA’s Occupational Safety and Health Department
Our CSEA Occupational Safety and Health Department has a variety of resources available for members and activists. One of those is a catalogue of fact sheets devoted to numerous safety-related topics. The fact sheets available includes ones on confined space entry, hazard control and PPE, indoor air quality, ticks and Lyme disease, and numerous other topics. Click here to review the list of available fact sheets and download printable PDF copies that may be shared at your worksite.
Keep up to date on safety-related topics by signing up for The Safety Net, an e-newsletter from CSEA that provides the latest info on safety trainings and events, breaking safety-related news, and other available resources. Click here to sign up for The Safety Net.
