Director of Communications

CSEA, one of New York State’s largest labor unions, is seeking resumes for the senior staff position of Director of Communications. The position is based in our downtown Albany, NY headquarters and requires travel throughout the state working with regional union leadership, staff, members, and media representatives. The position collaborates with union leadership to develop strategic communication and marketing objectives with various audiences both external and internal. The Director is responsible for the implementation of all plans on statewide and local levels with the assistance of regional communications associates under his/her supervision and a high-volume print shop. The Director is also the official spokesperson for CSEA and oversees and implements CSEA’s community relations presence. A wide range of skills and responsibilities are required including the ability to effectively articulate positions involving labor relations and public policy; communicate through various media; and supervise a statewide staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communication, marketing or a related field and six years of professional experience which regularly involved writing, editing, developing message and brand strategy, including two years in a supervisory capacity; OR a satisfactory combination of the foregoing education, training and experience. Candidates must possess a New York State driver’s license and a car for business use. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package.

Information Security Specialist

The position reports directly to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for ensuring that all private data belonging to CSEA, its members and its employees remains confidential. The Information Systems Security Specialist creates, initiates and monitors information within CSEA’s computer network.

The Specialist is responsible for CSEA’s security risk management program, including building understanding and awareness of information security throughout the organization and implementing appropriate security protocols. Essential functions include creating a strategic plan for the deployment of information security technologies and program enhancements; supervising development of and ensuring compliance with organizational security policies, standards and procedures; acting as a focal point for IS security investigations and direct/conduct investigation developing a recommended course of action; leading creation and maintenance of information systems, disaster recovery and business continuity plans including desktop and server backup systems deployment and  maintenance; assisting in systems and software architecture and design; monitoring internal controls; monitoring local, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards affecting information security.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology or related field with Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other equivalent certifications and 4 years of experience as a Security Specialist with IT strategy, enterprise architecture and security architecture; security concepts related to routing, authentication, proxy services; firewall intrusion detection/prevention protocols; Windows, and other operating systems and programming languages including but not limited to PHP, SQL, Java, .NET etc. OR Acceptable combination of education and work experience as determined by CSEA.

Labor Relations Specialist (Nassau County)

Strategic Campaign Coordinator

CSEA, one of New York State’s largest unions, is seeking résumés for a Strategic Campaign Coordinator working from our Albany, New York headquarters. The position reports directly to the Director of Organizing and is responsible for constructing strategy and research for selected organizing and contract campaigns and develops and coordinates field strategy and policy for advancing organizing initiatives in specific industries, companies and/or geographical locations. The position involves travel and overnight stays during campaigns.

Salary: $63,658 with excellent benefits.

The candidate must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and car for business use. Bachelor’s degree in a related field that includes research and analysis coursework and one year of experience with organizing research contract or community based campaigns or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Secretary

CSEA is seeking resumes for a Secretary for our Downtown Albany, NY headquarters.

The Secretary reports to a Director or Office Manager and provides administrative and secretarial support. The nature and variety of activities depends on the program area(s) of assignment. Incumbent transcribes material using an alphanumeric keyboard or other machines, correspondence, documents and records under limited supervision. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to – preparing replies to technical and non-technical inquiries about the office; proofreads outgoing correspondence; answers phones; prepares office reports; organizes work material for meetings, presentations and workshops; maintains/updates databases; trains other clerical staff.

Qualifications: Ability to type 40 words per minute and strong grammar and spelling skills. Proficiency in the Microsoft suite office software. Must successfully complete appropriate tests administered by the Human Resources Department. Previous secretarial or administrative experience preferred.

Starting salary: $41,000 with excellent benefits.
