CSEA announces 2016 McDonough Scholarship recipients

graduation_capCSEA recently presented our annual Thomas H. McDonough Memorial Scholarship for Continuing Studies to six children of union members (one in each region).

Named for McDonough, a previous CSEA executive vice president, the $1,000 scholarship is awarded to students who are already enrolled in a higher eduction program.

Long Island Region:
Melissa Rorech, whose parent, Anastasia Kruk, is a communications operator I at Nassau County.

Metropolitan Region:
Mario Papa, whose parent, Mario Papa Sr., is an electrician at Staten Island Developmental Center.

Southern Region:
Neil Patel, whose parent, Prakash Patel, is a motor equipment mechanic at the New York State Department of Transportation.

Capital Region:
Susanne Prendergast, whose parent, Theresa Prendergast, is a teaching assistant at the Catskill Central School District.

Central Region:
Megan Barney, whose parent, Ray Barney, is an account clerk at St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.

Western Region:
Zachary Taylor, whose parent, Shawna Taylor, is a case supervisor at Niagara County.

    CSEA announces 2017 statewide scholarship recipients

    graduation_capCSEA is proud to announce the recipients of the 2017 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarships, Pearl Carroll and MetLife Insurance Company Scholarships. Each year, the union presents the $1,000 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship to 18 graduating high school seniors who are the dependents of CSEA members, three in each region.

    The Pearl Carroll and MetLife Insurance Company Scholarships each total $2,500 and are each awarded to one eligible graduating high school senior.

    Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarships
    Long Island Region:
    Casey Butcher, whose father, William G. Butcher, is an accounts auditor at the Nassau County Department of Public Works.
    Danielle Mahn, whose mother, Lisa C. Mahn, is a teacher aide at the Levittown Public School District.
    Kristina Schwab, whose mother, Lisa Schwab, is a clerical aide the the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority.

    Metropolitan Region:
    Althea Lawrence, whose mother, Patricia Lawrence, is a workers’ compensation examiner at the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board.
    Maxwell Preudhomme, whose father, Eugene Preudhomme, is a principal management analyst at the NYS Supreme Court, Appellate Division, 1st Department.
    Umar Rehman, whose mother, Nury Rivadeneira, is a mental health therapy aide at the NYS Psychiatric Institute.

    Southern Region:
    Christine Hurley, whose mother, Joanne M. Hurley, is a senior account clerk at Orange County.
    Rima Patel, whose father, Prakash Patel, is a motor equipment mechanic at the NYS Department of Transportation.
    Erin Theiller, whose mother, Kathleen Theiller, is a typist at the Wappingers Central School District.

    Capital Region:
    Tyler Dellavechia, whose mother, Lorraine Dellavechia, is a clerk typist at the Hudson City School District.
    Molly Gagnon, whose mother, Tammy Gagnon, is an office assistant 1 at NYS Empire State College.
    Nicholas Nasta, whose mother, Jo-Ann Marie Nasta, is a food service assistant at the Saratoga Springs School District, and whose father, Nicholas Nasta is an associate court security officer at the NYS Unified Court System.

    Central Region:
    Ryan D. Morrill, whose mother, Jill M. Morrill, is a school nurse at the Hermon-De Kalb Central School District.
    Sarah Parks, whose father, Matthew B. Parks, is an associate court clerk at the NYS Unified Court System.
    Andrea Sprague-Getsy, whose father, Mark Getsy, is a cleaner at SUNY Binghamton.

    Western Region:
    Annalise Boyer, whose mother, Lisa Boyer, is an index clerk at Cattaraugus County.
    Karlie Gambino, whose mother, Denise E. Gambino, is a senior social welfare examiner at the Erie County Department of Social Services.
    Stefan Max Maczynski, whose mother, Karen E. Maczynski, is an attendance clerk at the Naples Central School District.

    Pearl Carroll & Associates Scholarship (in memory of Charles Foster)
    Emily Michele, whose mother, Joy Michele, is a clerk-typist at Babylon School District.

    MetLife Insurance Company Scholarship (in memory of Joseph D. Lochner)
    Justin Gaskins, whose mother, Belinda Gaskins, is a social work examiner supervisor 2 at Nassau County Department of Social Services.

      2015 McDonough Scholarship recipients announced

      graduation_capCSEA recently awarded six $1,000 Thomas H. McDonough Memorial Scholarship for Continuing Studies (one per region) to children of union members. McDonough had served in numerous CSEA offices, including as the union’s executive vice president. The scholarship in his name is awarded annually to former Irving Flaumenbaum scholarship recipients who are pursuing higher education.

      The 2015 recipients are:
      Long Island Region:
      Emily Vigliotta, whose mother, Jane Vigliotta is a clerk typist at the William Floyd School District. Vigliotta is attending the College of the Holy Cross.

      Metropolitan Region:
      Suraj Kumar, whose mother, Suresh Bala is a food service worker at the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. Kumar is attending Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

      Southern Region:
      Michelle Prakash, whose mother, Leelamma Prakash is assistant director of administrative services at Westchester County, and whose father, Koshy Prakash, is a software architect at Westchester County. Prakash is attending Siena College.

      Capital Region:
      Emily Hess, whose mother, Sandy Hess is a special education aide at the Shenendehowa Central School District. Hess is attending Hamilton College.

      Central Region:
      Kayla Dittl, whose mother, Penny Dittl is an aide at the Lowville Academy Central School District. Dittl is attending the State University of New York at Brockport.

      Western Region:
      Kayla Casper, whose mother, Maria Casper is a teacher aide at the Elba Central School District. Casper is attending Cazenovia College.

        Southern Region scholarship recipients announced

        Southern Region President Billy Riccaldo and Southern Region officers recently presented several graduating high school students with college scholarships.
        Lynn Doyle, daughter of Dutchess County Unit member Carol Doyle, received the Diane Hewitt Scholarship;
        Andrew Chilton, son of Lakeland School District Unit member Maureen Chilton, received the Southern Region Scholarship;
        Andrew Clase, son of Ossining School District Unit member Astrid Clase, received the Community Action Scholarship; and
        Anthony Lesczynski, son of Town of Wallkill Unit member Kimberly Lesczynski, was the recipient of the Humanitarian Scholarship.
